An Introduction
This first edition of the ”DIAGNOSIS OF DISORDERS”
is inspired by my attendance at the American Animal Association conference.
My highest priority is to provide a helpful guide to clinical practice with domestic
animals. Edition One is intended to provide other clinicians with good diagnostic
criteria as well as be a reference guide.
Special efforts will be made to incorporate
an awareness that the manual is used with a diverse population of domestic animals.
I am often asked to evaluate all different kinds of animals. Diagnostic assessment
can be challenging when trying to evaluate dogs, cats, ferrets, fish and others.
Some “syndromes” may be specific to a single
group of animals. For example, fish are unlikely to have an “out of water” experience
whereas dogs and cats have them everyday. The Diagnosis of Disorder manual provides
a listing of both codes and categories. The disorders are accompanied by descriptive
text and case histories.
